A vision of care — planted in 1987.

In 1987, Dr. Shrikrishna G. Nadgouda founded Jayapriya Hospital in Hubli — inspired by his father-in-law, the eminent eye surgeon and social worker Late Dr. Anant Huilgol, who had spent a lifetime restoring sight to the communities of Karnataka.

That founding conviction has not changed in nearly four decades: that expert eye care must reach not just the city, but the district towns and villages of Northern Karnataka — through world-class treatment, community camps, and a non-profit foundation that keeps the mission alive.

How long does cataract surgery take, and can I go home the same day?

Modern phacoemulsification cataract surgery takes about 15–20 minutes per eye. It is a day procedure — most patients return home within a few hours of surgery. You will need someone to accompany you, and we provide detailed post-operative instructions for recovery at home.

Do you provide eye care for children?

Yes. Our pediatric ophthalmology services cover squint (strabismus), amblyopia (lazy eye), pediatric cataracts, and refractive errors in children. Early detection matters enormously for a child's visual development — we recommend a first comprehensive eye check before school age.

Is the 24-hour emergency service available on all days?

Yes. Our emergency eye care is available 24 hours, 7 days a week — including Sundays and public holidays. For eye trauma, chemical burns, sudden vision loss, or any acute eye emergency, come directly or call us on 9986503611.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring any previous eye prescriptions, glasses or contact lenses you currently use, and any prior test reports or surgery records. If you are diabetic or hypertensive, bring your latest medical reports as well — these conditions directly affect eye health.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept most major health insurance policies. Please carry your insurance card and policy documents. Our billing team will assist you with pre-authorisation and cashless claim procedures where applicable. Please call us in advance to confirm coverage for your procedure.

What ENT services do you offer — is it separate from the eye department?

Our ENT department is a fully independent super-speciality — covering ear care, hearing assessment, sinus treatment, throat and voice disorders, and ENT surgeries including tonsillectomy and endoscopic sinus surgery. You can book directly for ENT without an eye referral.

Does Jayapriya Hospital conduct free eye camps?

Yes. Through the Jayapriya Medical Foundation (our non-profit wing), we regularly conduct free community eye camps and screening programmes in rural and semi-urban areas of Northern Karnataka — in the tradition established by our founder. Watch our social channels for upcoming camp dates.
